Dr. Lars Hanson was born on August 10, 1934, in Naverstad, Sweden. He is married and has 2 children. He obtained his M.D. at the School of Medicine at the University of Goteborg, Sweden in 1961 and defended his thesis for a doctoral degree in medical science in 1961 (Ph.D.).

Amanuens and assistant at the Department of Bacteriology, University of Goteborg (Professor O. Ouchterlony) 1955-1961, but for a period in Service de Chimie Microbienne at the Pasteur Institute in Paris with Professor P. Grabar in 1958. Title of Assistant Professor of Immunology since 1961. Intern in pediatrics, Department of Pediatrics, University of Goteborg (Professor R. Zetterstrom), 1961-1962.

Research Associate at the Department of Protein Metabolism at the Rockefeller University, New York, USA (Professor H.G. Kunkel), 1962-1963.

Resident in pediatrics, Department of Pediatrics at the Crown Princess Lovisa's Children's Hospital of the Karolinska Institute, Stockholm, Sweden (Professor R. Zetterström) 1963-1965. Research fellowship at the Department of Pediatrics, University of Goteborg (Professor P. Karlberg) 1965-1969. Specialist in Pediatrics 1967.

From 1969 Associate Professor of Immunology at the Medical Faculty, University of Goteborg and head of the Department of Immunology at the Institute of Medical Microbiology, as well as consultant in Clinical Immunology to the Department of Pediatrics and the Section of Allergy of the Department of Internal Medicine, Sahlgrenska University Hospital, Goteborg.

From 1977 Specialist in Clinical Immunology and Physician-in-Chief for Clinical Immunology for the hospitals of the City of Goteborg. From 1978 also Professor and Chairman of Clinical Immunology and Head of the Department of Clinical Immunology at the University of Goteborg.

Scientific Advisor in Clinical Immunology to the National Board of Health and Welfare.

Dr. Hanson has published some 700 scientific papers in bacteriology, pediatrics and immunology; of these more than 430 original reports. Editor and contributor/author of 21 books.

Between 1969 and 2002, 79 PhD theses were published from the Dept of Immunology (1969-78) and Dept of Clinical Immunology (1978-2002). Several PhD and postdoc students during this period from USA, Austria, Italy, Russia, Australia, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Pakistan, Japan, Switzerland, China, Tcheckia, Romania.

Professor Emeritus since 2000.
