Need women anywhere in the US who had a benign breast biopsy after January 2000 and have NOT been diagnosed with breast cancer.

Need women who have been diagnosed with breast cancer and are now taking or who have taken the following medications in the past 12 months:  Nolvadex (tamoxifen), Arimidex (anastrazole), or Femara (letrozole).

Need night shift workers to see if there are any differences in breast tissue cells in women who work day and night shifts.

  • Phase 1b trial of 2nd generation designer T cells in metastatic breast cancer -  need women with stage IV metastic breast cancer living near or willing to travel to Roger Williams Medical Center in Providence, Rhode Island.
  • Acupuncture for sleep problems – need breast cancers survivors in the San Francisco Bay area who have completed treatment and who have difficulty falling or staying asleep.
  • Inflammation changes over time in obese, overweight, and normal weight women – need pre- or postmenopausal women with or without a breast cancer diagnosis in or near Fargo, North Dakato, to study the role of inflammation in the development of breast cancer.
  • Jewels in our genes – need African-American women diagnosed with breast cancer at any stage and their relatives to study genes unique to African Americans that may predict early breast cancer risk.  Anyone in the US may participate.

In Memoriam – Chris Mulford passed away on August 23, 2011.  She is one of many who helped give birth to the profession of lactation consulting.  Chris was very active in La Leche League, ILCA, and WABA.  Her family requests that memorial donations in Chris’ name be made to WABA.  For more information, click here.  ILCA has made available Chris’ final presentation at this year’s ILCA conference – “Breastfeeding as ‘Extreme’ Casework: Breastfeeding on the Carework Spectrum” as a free study module in celebration of Chris’ life.  For more information, click here – look under “What’s New.”

  • The latest study is looking at whether taking a high dose of progestin can reduce breast cancer risk in young women.  Researchers are looking for women in the Los Angeles area who are currently receiving Depo Provera injections.  For more information on this and other studies, click here.

ACOG - The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists has developed a website for ob-gyns and their patients to provide information on seasonal flu and other vaccine-preventable diseases.  Click here to view the information for pregnant and breastfeeding women.

Army of Women – Researchers at New York University School of Medicine are looking for Ashkenazi Jewish women to determine if women who have inherited a BRCA genetic mutation may also have inherited other genetic factors that reduce or increase their risk of developing breast and ovarian cancer.  For more information about this study and other current studies, click here.
