Six Mothers Six Stories of disAbility was written by Dr. Golder Wilson, a pediatrician/medical geneticist whose own child has a disability. Dr. Wilson interviewed six mothers of children with disabilities for this book.  He tells how they found the strength to get the medical help, education, job training and skills, and best living arrangements for their children.  These women are ordinary women who went on to reward their families, enthrall their communities, start new programs or new careers, discover new lives they never would have had if not for their child, and become powerful advocates for their child and other families facing the same situations.  These moms not only tell their story, but they also give advice – to other families and to health professionals – on what to do and how best to handle different situations.  Dr. Wilson then gives his perspective to help physicians better relate to families with disabled children.
